Metaphysical Synthesis & Analysis
The Synthesis
Kanban is a workflow management method that visualizes work, limits work-in-progress (WIP), and optimizes flow. Unlike Scrum's time-boxed sprints, Kanban is continuous. For PMs, Kanban's power is in making bottlenecks visible: if 'In Review' is always full, that's the constraint. The key principle is limiting WIP: starting less means finishing more.
Metaphysical Foundation
Kanban is the visualization of flow. It makes work visible and constraints explicit.
Evolutionary Path
From manufacturing (Toyota) to software development, Kanban has been adapted for knowledge work while maintaining its core principles.
